二乘二建筑事务所、二加二建筑研究室致力于建筑研究与实践的并行发展。我们认为建筑为一种物质实践，也是一种思维建构。两者相关的，相似的，相悖的，或者矛盾的，但绝不是脱节的。我们的研究建立在两个轴线的探索之上。
第一个轴线是一条转换的轴线。轴线的一端是空间，是建构，是形式，是秩序，是意向也是模式，是图解也是组构，是建筑学内在的自主议题。轴线的另一端是人，是行为，是功能，是社会，是共同也是联合，是历史也是文化,是建筑学所嵌入的外部背景。这条轴线是内部的和外部的，是符号的和语境的。
在这条轴线上，我们拒绝简单的线性对应。任意的等号会简化轴线的两端，使建筑变成某种无聊的封闭游戏，或者变成某种空洞的外部口号的背书。我们关注这条轴线的转换属性，关注可以同时在轴线两端进行分析和阐明的转换代码，并将实践和研究看作它的物质载体。诚然，这条轴线并不是线性且单一的，存在多种视角和可能性。但是每一种可能性都不能丧失其转换特质的明晰阐述，否则，建筑将会变得悬浮，变成某种劣质的魔术表演，变成某种玄学一样的不知所云。
第二条轴线关乎规则的层次。是群像和个案，是普遍和特殊，是某种条件下的社会群体和某个具体的人，是某种抽象的操作规则和某个具象的实践对象，或者是某种整体的结构和某个个体的能动。这条轴线的一侧抽象且稳定，另一侧则具体且多变。
在这条轴线上，我们认为建筑既是真实的个案实践，也是某种普遍思维的展示。在这条轴线上，我们追求建筑作为转换媒介的多种可能性, 探索一种半开放的复杂。我们拒绝任何建造和思维的简化，将普遍规则视为某种牵强的装饰，又或者忽略具体的建造，进而无法嵌入真实的世界。
我们的研究建立在两条轴线的交织之上，它可能是某种条件下人与建成环境的互动关系，也可能是某种社会功能中的空间类型操作，亦可能是时间维度上的某种空间传统的解读。我们并不预设单一性的假设，追求某种排他性的“正确”。但我们追求叙述的完整逻辑，拒绝任性而随意的解释。我们致力于一个半开放的复杂，它既不杂乱无章，也不内向封闭。我们崇尚视角的包容，探索阐述的逻辑，面向真实寻求策略的多种可能。我们坚持的认为，探索本身才是永恒的真相。
